Melinda Nampitjinpa Major

Melinda Major was born at Ikuntji (Haasts Bluff) in 1982. She is the daughter of painter Lynette Purunga Nungarrayi Corby who also paints at Tangentyere Artists. Melinda learnt to paint from her mother and her mother’s sister Mary Nungarrayi Dixon nee Daniels, as a young girl. Her father’s name was David Windjanana. He was from Ininti, west of Kintore.

Melinda grew up in the Corby-Reid family, but when losing her father in 2016, she chose his last name in remembrance. Since then she has married up and taken on the name of Major.

She has painted at Papunya Tjupi in the past, and favours painting bush flowers, a cultural narrative she received from her famous mother.
